Expanding the Pair-of-Dice Brand
7/14/2017

The Pair-of-Dice brand debuted in 2001 as a way to showcase and self-publish games. Over the years we published 12 games using the Pair-of-Dice brand and wound up having two games published via larger companies, Chopstick Dexterity MegaChallenge 3000 by Mayday Games and Warp 6 by Magellan Games.

Now in 2017, after a game design hiatus, I've decided to use the Pair-of-Dice brand to also showcase my other creative endeavors as well. All of the Pair-of-Dice Games that are available for sale are still available, but I am now also showcasing my writing, media productions, print and web design, podcasting, and other endeavors.

If you like the creativity and joy that Pair-of-Dice Games has brought you, I invite you to check out the other projects I've been working on over the years. And as always, please enjoy your stay in Pair-of-Dice.

Current Status of Pair-of-Dice Games
6/1/2015

I'm sure that people have noticed that I haven't recently been very active recently. designing games. I haven't been designing games as I have a lot less time on my hands after the birth of my daughter in 2011! I will be keeping the site up and fulfilling any orders that come in so long as supplies last. In fact, Warp 6 just sold out today. Right now the only version in print is the Russian Edition from Magellan Games.

I will continue maintaining the site for orders for the foreseeable future, although I have no current plans for developing games.

Pair-of-Dice still retains the rights to publish Warp 6 in English (and any other language other than Russian!).

Blogging About Running Pair-of-Dice
2/7/2011

Recently, Greg Lam blogged on BoardGameGeek about running Pair-of-Dice games in a post titled "How to Run a Game Company Out of Your Closet". Download the New R.U.M.B.L. Player Screens
1/30/2011

For anyone who has purchased a copy of R.U.M.B.L., we've just posted a new secrecy screen/player aid here. The screen is more stable than the previous screen, and the player aid robot explanations are done graphically instead of through written instructions as in the previous version.

Now presenting: R.U.M.B.L
10/30/10

Pair-of-Dice Games is proud to present it's next game, R.U.M.B.L (or
RoboUltimateMechaBattleLeague). R.U.M.B.L. is a two player game in which each
player controls a team of robots over three rounds in a futuristic sport which
is a cross between Sumo and Demolition Derby. Each robot has a different
ability: Some fly, some push, some explode. It's up to each player to decide
when to deploy the robots on his or her team. R.U.M.B.L. is a fast, fun two
player game of simultaneous programming and futuristic sport.

Pair-of-Dice Games Exhibits at Origins
6/29/08

Greg Lam at Pair-of-Dice Games exhibited his games at the Origins Game Fair in Columbus, OH from June 25-29, 2008. This was the first time that Pair-of-Dice had a vendor's table at a major convention, demoing and selling copies of the games to gaming enthusiasts from around the world. The game fair is the second largest gaming convention in the United States, attracting over 15,000 attendees over the five days of the convention.

During the convention, Greg also interviewed with the gaming podcasts The Spiel and The Vintage Gamer over the course of the weekend. The interviews will air in coming episodes, along with a longer interview with the podcast Boardgame Babylon that Greg participated in last fall for their "Stories of Self-Publishing" series.

Pair-of-Dice sold nearly $1,000 in games over the four days.

Knockabout Featured on The Spiel
5/12/08

Pair-of-Dice Games' strategic dice game Knockabout was featured in the popular gaming podcast, The Spiel. The podcast, originating from Indianapolis, IN, featured the game in an episode called "The Short List", in which the two hosts Stephen Conway and Dave Coulson played and briefly reviewed a selection of games of which Knockabout was included. The podcast can be downloaded at http://www.thespiel.net/?q=node/234.

Some excerpts of the discussion of Knockabout:

"A huge amount of strategy to picking a die... A great little game... much more depth than we thought it was going to have... Strategically complex though it seemed really easy... Definitely a lot more strategy than meets the eye."

Knockabout is the second game to be reviewed by The Spiel. First was Marvin Marvel's Marvelous Marble Machine in Episode 25, You Look Marbelous! in March 2007.

Updates to the Chopstick Game: Free Downloads
6/17/07

Several additions and changes have been made to the Chopstick Game from its original forms. First, 10 new tokens have been added to the game which include wild card color tokens, tokens which call for picking up specific numbers of any item, and an "All" token in which players try to pick up as many items as possible.

Also, the wood dyeing process has been improved, so that the colors of the items are deeper and more distinct.

Finally, a new Final Victory Stage solo game has been added to the package. This is available as a free downloadable PDF for those interested.

With all of these changes to the basic game, we will offer a Chopstick Update package of the 10 new tokens, newly dyed items, updated rules, and the Final Victory Stage printed on card stock paper for the nominal fee of $2.00. Go to the Chopstick Game update page to order.

Pair-of-Dice Receives Media Mentions

Recently, Pair-of-Dice has made a splash in the news. First, Chopstick Dexterity MegaChallenge 3000 was featured in the Sidekick section of the Boston Globe on October 16, 2006. The same day, Warp 6 was reviewed on the Norweigian games web site, Brettspillguiden. We think it's a fairly good review, but we can't actually read it. Anyone able to translate?

Finally, we've published a Boardgamegeek Geeklist taking a behind-the-scenes look at the publication of our games, called Behind the Bits: The Pair-of-Dice Games "DVD Commentary Track" Geeklist.
